Dr. Talesha Dokes is a proud North Little Rock native with deep roots in the historic Dark Hollow community. A graduate of North Little Rock High School, she earned a basketball scholarship to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where her leadership, discipline, and drive first flourished on a collegiate level.
She later returned home and earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Dr. Dokes went on to complete her Ph.D. at Michigan State University, becoming a respected scholar, educator, and community advocate.
Throughout her career, Dr. Dokes has served as an educator, mentor, and professional consultant—partnering with schools, faith-based organizations, community groups, and local leaders to strengthen pathways of opportunity. She is known for not only speaking about change, but actively doing the work—showing up with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to serve.
As a dedicated mother, Dr. Dokes intimately understands the challenges families face and the importance of building safe, thriving communities where children can grow and succeed. Her lived experiences as a mother, educator, and community leader fuel her passion for policy reform and building stronger support systems for Arkansas families.
